Myth Creation Analysis
I think the main difference between creating a myth and studying a myth is the amount of creativity and fun. I think creating a myth allows for more fun and freedom because you are not restrained by histories, ideologies, and cultural beliefs, but I think at the same time you have the ability to use those factors to create your myth. I think creating a myth enhances the study of myth because it allows for critical thinking. You have to think about history, ideology, and cultural beliefs that you want to incorporate and they don’t necessarily have to exist in a real-world context. I think creating a myth allows for fun and freedom, while allowing us to create our own histories, ideologies, and beliefs enhances our study of myth as it enhances our own critical thinking.
I think I learned how fun it is to create something without many constraints. I think having students create their own myths is a great assignment, especially if we’re having them students study Greek and Roman mythology. I think our students are naturally creative and we want to direct that energy to their academics. We want to set limitations for our students, but we do not want to limit them in their creativity. I think that in my future teaching I want to incorporate rubrics with objective standards, but that allow for the creative expression of students. I think in my future classroom I want my students to be openly expressive with their creativity and show that writing can be fun.
